Theatre REVIEW: A Midsummer Night's Dream - ★★★★

It’s Midsummer’s Night and two very different worlds are about to collide.

Carefree lovers and a band of amateur actors cross paths with the Fairy King and Queen in an enchanted forest. When Puck, a mischievous fairy, starts casting their prankish spells the lines between dreams and reality start to blur and everyone’s in for a night of chaos, love, jealousy and …… a pair of donkey’s ears!

Arguably Shakespeare’s greatest comedy comes to our main stage this summer, in an accessible and anarchic adaptation performed by members of the New Wolsey Theatre’s Young Company and Senior Youth Theatre.

Tickets are FREE for anyone aged 22 and under, making 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' the perfect opportunity to introduce young people to the power of Shakespeare’s language, the thrill of live performance, and the work of our talented young theatre makers.

MIX UP REVIEWS:

Jan (Age 12) - ★★★★

"This play contains the original storyline, with a few modern twists. This makes it a lot more understandable compared to other Shakespeare plays. Even though the actors speak old English, and the story is complicated, I found the show clear and easy to understand.

Generally, all the actors did an amazing job. My favourite actor in this play is Eleanor Weldon who plays Bottom as well as Pyramus. Unlike more original shows, Puck was a rather strange character, I don’t understand why Puck at the beginning of the play was surrounded by loud music that doesn’t suit the sneaky role of Puck.

This performance started off rather bland, gradually becoming more interesting, with a slightly chaotic ending. I like this, but I think the beginning should be more eye-catching and the ending was too over-the-top for me. Even though ‘A Midsummer night’s dream’ is not a comedy, it had a few funny moments, which I really enjoyed.

In conclusion, I enjoyed this show, but it could be better in a few simple ways."
