Comedy REVIEW: Jay Lafferty: Bahookie - ★★★★

Breaking The News star Jay Lafferty combines comedy and pole dancing in this acclaimed, thought-provoking and joyful show.

Bahookie is a tour-de-force celebration of what you can achieve when you're terrified of becoming irrelevant, where Jay uses her signature warm wit and sharp observations to highlight the hilarity that comes from completely overestimating your own abilities.

BBC Breaking the News star Jay Lafferty combines comedy and pole dancing in this jam-packed hour tackling everything from ageing to internalised misogyny, celebrating the power of movement, body positivity and finding joy.

Stewart - ★★★★

"Lafferty is a very warm and friendly host in this rather pleasant stand-up comedy. Its not often that stand-up gives such a feel good glow but it radiates from Lafferty's joyful stage presence.

The set itself deals with Lafferty coming to terms with hitting 40 and finding activities and hobbies that give her joy - including a pole dancing class that she amusingly tells many a story of. Another highlight being the Whatsapp parents chat and the power struggles that come with it.

The show is a bit too long, hitting almost two hours and it's a slow start as Lafferty chats away to the audience - it builds the friendliness but loses the pace.

However Lafferty is such a joyful presence that you'll be more than willing to join in when the time comes. If you can still catch the show then it's worth doing so."
